Grundtvig 2013

Sponsored* International Course
'IMAGINING SOCIALISM ON SCREEN MEDIA'

Will Be Held In BUDAPEST, HUNGARY, 10.27-10.31 2013

Throughout the course organized by ELTE's Film Studies Department, participants will become familiar with the ways screen media are instrumental in the formation of memories about historical events. The focus of the course will be the motion picture representations of state socialism. Through seminars, workshop discussions, screenings and interactive presentations, the group will aim at developing critical skills that can be applied to the interpretation of other historical events, as they appear through screen media.

Lectures and workshops will be led by professors András Bálint Kovács (ELTE), Constantin Parvulescu (University of Timisoara), Teréz Vincze (ELTE), Tibor Hirsch (ELTE), Balázs Varga (ELTE) and László Strausz (ELTE).

* The price of the course is 650 EUR but is sponsored for people who work in adult education: you can apply for a Grundtvig grant to finance your participation (travel, accommodation, course fee, preparation - if needed). You have to submit your application for the "Grundtvig in-service training grant" before April 30 2012 to your National Agency, using the official application form (downloadable from your National Agency's website). Note that you will also have to attach the confirmation of pre-registration to your application, which will be sent to you by Media Universalis after your registration.

The course will be held in Budapest, the Hungarian capital on the river Danube. In accord with the topics discussed throughout the course, afternoon programmes include walks through the city's historical districts led by expert historians, and a visit to the famous communist statue park.

The skills learnt here can be used in teaching history, social science, cultural heritage and the field of media and communication.
